Ecodownunder is a family run Australian business since 1997.
We believe we all have a responsibility to look after the natural environment for future generations. Sustainability is at the heart of everything we do.
In the 1990's we could see a lot of cheap synthetic products coming from China.
We decided that we had to do better. "Reduce, recycle, reuse" and beach cleans were good but.....it was obvious to us then that any meaningful change had to come from business by eliminating the source of the problem.
The idea for ecodownunder was born way back then in 1997
At Ecodownunder we skip the middleman and work directly with our suppliers in both Australia and India.
We do not have expensive overheads and this enables us to sell our products at a fair price, so that everyone can afford sustainable organic and eco friendly natural alternatives.
Please compare our products with other Retailers and see the difference for yourself.
We try to have as many products as possible made in Australia, this includes:
All of our other products are made in India from locally sourced fibres (excluding Linen which is European), this includes:
At Ecodownunder we work hard to keep provide all our products at a reasonable price so that everyone can afford an eco alternative. Please compare our prices to other Retailers.
We do not offer Wholesale pricing, but we do offer:
* Shipping is within Australia and some charges may apply for remote areas and islands off Australia due to their high delivery costs.
If you have any queries, please email Ecobnb@ecodownunder.com.au
We have provided some tips to help prolong the life of your eco products.
Proper sorting of your washing is essential, washing like colours and fabrics together is key.
We do not recommend the use of Fabric Softeners as this puts a film on the products and make them less absorbent.
Most new towels will shed a little excess lint at first. A few initial washes will eliminate this problem and leave your towels ready for use.
If you cannot line dry your towels, do not use a hot setting on you dryer as this will overheat the cotton fibres and cause them to break down, creating excess linting. Instead use a warm dryer.
Yes we do sell Egyptian Cotton Sheets
Egyptian cotton is heralded as being the mark of luxury, these bed sheets have a percale weave that gives the fabric a matte look with a crisp feel.
Yes we sell Organic Cotton Towels and have a few ranges to choose from, depending what suits you.
Plush Luxury Organic Cotton Towels These are thick and thirsty towels.
We have blended bamboo & cotton to create a luxuriously soft, silk-like and absorbent Bamboo Cotton Towel.
The bamboo used in these towels is processed into a fibre using organic chemicals that are covered under the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification and are 100% recyclable.
The most comfortable sheets are those that are made from 100% natural fibres.
Choosing the best bed sheets is a matter of personal preference and depends upon how you like your sheets to feel against your skin.
We have developed an extensive range of bed sheets to ensure we have sheets you will love to sleep in.
Our bed linen range includes pure linen sheets, flannelette sheets, Egyptian cotton sheets, 1000 thread count sheets, linen cotton blend, pure organic cotton sheets and our best-selling signature eco cotton sheets.
Sheets are generally sold in sheet sets in all sizes including super king and king single sheets. Linen sheets are available as individual fitted and flat sheets. This allows the opportunity to use your creative flare to style your own combination, by mixing and matching colours which are designed to complement one another.
Ecodownunder White Eco Cotton Sheets are available to purchase as individual fitted sheets or flat sheets. Sheet sizes in this range include king single, long single, super king fitted sheets and in queen and king size fitted sheets. We offer a choice of a 37cm wall or for those who have a deeper mattress, a 50 cm wall.
Thread Count refers to the number of actual threads per square inch of fabric. This is calculated by counting the number of horizontal threads and the number of vertical threads which make up the weave of the fabric.
However, the best way to determine if the sheets are right for you is to feel them, rather than depending on thread count.
Please check the size chart prior to purchasing as some sizes vary slightly between sheet types
Queen50 - this has a 50cm depth or wall and is suited to a deep Queen mattress (40-50cm)
King50 - this has a 50cm depth or wall and is suited to a deep King mattress (40-50cm)
You can purchase White Eco Cotton Sheets in individals or Sea Glass or Soft Grey in sets with the fitted having a 50cm deep wall.
Most other sheets have a standard 37cm wall.
I didn’t add any bleach or whiteners to the washing machine, so what caused those discoloured patches and spots on my sheets and towels?
Many products contain agents and chemicals that can take the colour out of natural fibres, leaving discoloured patches or spots on sheets or towels. In some cases the patches do not appear until after washing.
The colour of the patches may vary depending on the colour of the product (i.e. white patches will appear on blue towels, yellow/orange patches will appear on grey towels - see examples below).
Some of the culprits that cause these discoloured patches include:
Bleach marks appear white on blue coloured towels :
Bleach marks appear an orange or reddish colour on grey towels:
We DO NOT recommend using any fabric softeners on your bath linen.
Fabric softeners leave a coating on towels, which reduces their absorbency and eventually leads to towel feeling like scratchy cardboard.
We suggest that instead of using fabric softener, you can halve the washing powder/detergent and add two tablespoons of white wine vinegar to the wash.
At times snags or pulls appear in new towels that have not yet been washed, or existing towels get gt caught on sharp objects. To fix this, you can simply use a sharp pair of scissors to snip the snag at the level of pile. This will not impact on the use of the towel, nor will it unravel.
Yes they are cotton seeds. As we use only natural cotton fill in our mattress protectors, from time to time, small cotton seeds may be caught in the cotton fibre and become visible when washed.
These are all natural and do not effect the use of the mattress protector.
No we do not use blankets or TOG ratings to determine how warm a quilt is. There are many variables and the blankets can be made from cotton, wool, polyester etc.. and all have different weights and warmth effect.
This is because the warmth of a quilt will depend on:

An Environmental Management System (EMS) is a planned approach to managing environmental impacts. The "Toitū enviromark" programme mentors organisations to develop, implement and maintain an EMS and verifies their work.
In short the answer is no unless you want to risk damaging your product as the agitation on the washing machine can still cause natural fibres to interlock.

The Japara Cotton used does NOT contain any wax - bees wax or paraffin wax.
Our Makers use a tightly woven weave that is pure cotton to ensure that no cotton or wool leaches from the quilt. This is still referred to as Japara Cotton.
Ecodownunder down and feather bedding is ethically sourced and is made from a by product of the Australian food industry. No farms raise birds purely for their feathers. The down and feather would become a waste material if not used for bedding and clothing. By using a waste product from the food industry, it avoids the manufacture of synthetic materials which have a higher carbon footprint.
Yes, all the wool that is used in the making of our quilts ‘mulesing free’.

We pack all orders in organic cotton bags (we do not have or use plastic packaging on our products).
For sending orders via Couriers and Australia Post - we use re-cycled courier bags or dirt bags (compostable black bags). However, the one we select will depend on the size of your order.
We want to use all compostable bags, but at this stage we cannot find a robust, reliable compostable bag big enough for our larger orders (such as quilts) that will not split or get damaged during delivery. For these orders we use recycled bags that can also be recycled again.
We only Ship orders within Australia.
