Natural fibres have long been regarded as superior to use in the kitchen and around food. Tea towels and cloths made from micro fibres are not recommended as these are made from polyester or other synthetics which shed tiny particles of plastic which are likely to end up in the food you eat!

Cotton tea towels are also a natural choice for use in the kitchen. Our signature Ecodownunder Tea Towels are made from GOTS certified organic cotton, which makes them perfectly safe to use around food and whilst preparing meals.

In classic colours, our blue and white striped tea towels, the original design preferred by restaurant chefs, to colour code for different uses and to avoid contamination, can be alternated with black and white striped tea towels.

Hanging up the tea towel to dry, as with any towels, helps to avoid a moist area for bacteria to grow. Good kitchen hygiene means washing tea towels regularly. We recommend that you don’t use fabric softeners in the wash as this coats the fabric, making it less absorbent and less good at drying your dishes. It’s also recommended that you don’t use artificial fragrances in the laundering as these fragrances can contaminate the kitchenware, tainting your food and wine!
