Caring for your Australian Made Wool Mattress Topper/Underlay

How to care for your Australian Made Wool Underblanket (also referred to as a Mattress Topper or Underlay) and ensure that you get the most out of it.  These are made from all natural fibres so they are great for you and the environment.

  • Can be spot cleaned - the sooner you treat stains the better, if you wait it will be more difficult to remove the stain from your wool mattress topper. You can initially try blotting with a dry soft cloth or sponge to absorb as much of the stain as possible. Then use a damp cloth or sponge, pressing into the stain to try to absorb it. Use only cold water when spot cleaning as hot water will set a protein stain such as blood.
  • Dry Clean only using a reputable Dry Cleaner who works with natural fibres.   We recommend using an Organic or Natural Dry Cleaner, who offer services using cleaning agents that are bio-degradable and friendly to the environment, and are therefore free of toxic chemical residues or smells
  • Air regularly and thoroughly,  especially if you use a conventional dry cleaner.  Airing will help release any moisture and unwanted odours. The best weather for airing out your mattress topper is on a sunny, warm day with a little breeze.  Sunning at least for a few hours will fluff up your topper because the sun will dry out any moisture build-up inside the topper. It is more efficient to air both sides.
You can also vacuum using an upholstery type attachment, this will help draw air through the wool fibres, keeping them loose and allowing any odours to be removed.

It is recommended to use sheets made from natural fibres such as cotton or linen which will help reduce overheating.
